Chef Rob’s Bakehouse

So I asked whether we could head down to Bunyip (19 Main Street, Bunyip – just opposite Bunyip Station) to visit Chef Rob at his Bakehouse during the school break and he said ‘sure..’, so we left at 7am and reached about 8am and “worked” until about 11am. It was fun, we made carrot cake and ate the lot! And I was allowed to decorate one of his cakes. Thanks Rob, it was super fun!!

The Royal Melbourne Show 2010

Went off to The Royal Melbourne Show for the first time ever, saw a few things, ate a few things and sat a few rides…

Inspired to return next year, perhaps as a competitor for the cakes.. either baking/decorating..

Fine Foods Australia 2010

We went on another field trip to the largest gathering of international food, drink and equipment for the retail, foodservice and hospitality industries. We registered online a couple weeks before to get in for free, and also it’s only for industry, therefore you would have to be in the industry before they’d let you in.. here’s pics from Fine Food Australia..

Also there are some pics from the foodie competitions they had, one of our chef’s won a couple of gold awards for his chocolate/sugar work (geisha piece).. congrats!

Field Trip and a surprise visit..

So one of our Teachers mentioned that we were to go on a field trip (Implementation of Food Safety procedures) and I suggested RACV Club down on Little Collins Street, we had the OK from the Executive Chef Pierrick Boyer and today we went off to Le Petit Gateau. Pierrick gave us a tour in the kitchen and gave us some tips for getting into the industry. And as we were having coffee and cake, in walks Adriano Zumbo! What luck! Both chefs, equally nice and we were fortunate to meet them. I had the Black Beauty cake and two macarons (Lychee and Pistachio).
