The Heart and Soul of my Baking Journey coming alive

Sausage Rolls (JP style)

Starting this week, I’ve decided to dust off the cobwebs on my numerous cook books on the big shelf I have and start cooking, or at least getting into practice.. gosh!

So here goes, Week 1 – sausage rolls and baklava, here’s the picture of the sausage rolls and will post the baklava pics up soon (after I do them tomorrow)

Sausage rolls (JP style) – Makes 15 mini sausage rolls

500g (250g pork mince, 250g beef mince)
2 large carrots shredded
1 large brown onion chopped very finely
3 cloves of garlic chopped very finely
2 eggs (1 for mixture, 1 to brush pastry – slightly beaten)
2 tbsp corn flour
1 tbsp middle eastern spice (harrisa)
salt and pepper to taste
3 sheets of puff pastry

1. Preheat oven to hot (220/200degrees-fan forced) and line oven trays with baking paper
2. Mix all the ingredients above together in a bowl
3. Ensure that your puff pastry is thawed out and then cut in half lengthways
4. Spoon/Pipe mixture in centre of pastry, brush side of pastry with egg (so sides stick together)
5. Fold over and place crease side down on baking paper, brush pastry with egg again
6. Cut into 5 equal pieces before putting into oven
7. Bake about 25 minutes (until pastry golden brown and meat cooked through)
